Black mullein (Verbascum nigrum)

This gigantic plant is worth it. In a flower meadow, the Black mullein is a real eye-catcher that provides a powerful vertical accent. It likes dry, moderately nutrient-rich, slightly acidic to calcareous soil. Severe droughts are no problem for this giant.

It is also a gestation plant for bees (including groove bees, mask bees and various bumblebees), hoverflies and butterflies and a host plant for – you’ll never guess – Black torch butterfly and Chamaesphecia masariformis (a species of wasp butterfly).

Family: Figwort Family (Scrophulariaceae)
Genus: Verbascum

Our outdoor plants can only be picked up in the store (with the exception of our filled balcony planter).

Beschrijving

All outdoor plants at Marvy Green are hardy and most are native. Native plants are plants that have been present in our Dutch nature for a long time. As a result, our insects, animals and nature have adapted to it and are therefore more useful than exotic plants. We also try to make a conscious choice for gestation and host plants for certain insects. All our outdoor plants are unsprayed. This way the insects do not ingest poison.

We buy this plant from Tasty Blooms. Their outdoor plants are all perennials with edible flowers. Not only edible for humans, but also for insects in the first place. The plants are grown on the edge of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park in Biezenmortel (Brabant). So it is only logical that everything they grow happens in a natural way. For example, the company also does natural soil improvement. This also results in the plants growing more stable and stronger.
